Problem statement

Before Tower Integrity Monitoring System, managing the structural health and security of our telecommunication towers was challenging. Frequent structural inspections were manual, costly, and provided only periodic insights, leaving assets vulnerable to theft, unauthorized access, and unnoticed structural degradation. Operational downtimes due to undetected issues were impacting service reliability, and our preventive measures lacked precision, resulting in increased maintenance expenses and safety risks.

Solution

TIMS was developed and deployed by integrating advanced sensor technology and a robust IoT framework. Strain gauges, accelerometers, and gyroscopes precisely monitor static and dynamic loads, tower sway, and vibrations. GPS and BLE-based asset tracking provided effective management and security for key assets like batteries and generators.

The centralized cloud analytics engine interprets sensor data to predict potential structural or operational failures accurately. This proactive approach significantly reduced maintenance costs and downtime, achieving a 98% accuracy rate in anomaly detection. Real-time alerts via an intuitive Android application ensured swift response to incidents and efficient asset management.

Additional integrated features include continuous video surveillance with night vision cameras and monitoring of tower subsystems like battery status and lighting systems. An edge gateway (LinkIt Smart 7688) collects sensor data and transmits it to the cloud.
